The test is of particular use in helping to determine storage stack height limits in the design phase, and maintain formulation quality once in production.
The test is undertaken to determine four factors:
- i) Crushing yield load (where an increase in deflection occurs with no further increase in load).
- ii) Crushing load at failure (the load required to produce a fracture or other ultimate material failure).
- iii) Deflection at crushing yield load (decrease in length of the specimen at the crushing yield load).
- iv) Apparent crushing stiffness (crushing load compared to deflection at a point on the linear part of the load-deflection curve).
DQ+ and Dillon Quantrol have created two alternative equipment kits designed to address the standard.
KIT 1 comprises of a a simple motorized test stand, force gauge, vented compression plate. KIT 1 does NOT include a direct electronic means of capturing deflection, hence it requires manual measurement of cross-head travel. KIT 1 is therefore recommended for users in a production environment as
opposed to R&D.
( Please email us to find out how you could add electronic displacement
measurement to this kit).
KIT 1 is offered for convenience under part #ASTM 2659(A), which includes:
SnapShot Test Stand motorized test stand (220 lb. capacity)
AFG 1000N Digital Force Gauge (with internal load cell)
50mm Vented Compression Plate
KIT 2 is a more sophisticated package that includes automatic electronic data capture of force and deflection. It features a powerful test control instrument, on-board software and a load cell integrated with a premium grade test stand. (Data can also be transmitted via RS232 to a PC if required - Please email us for details).
KIT 2 is offered for convenience under part #ASTM 2659(B), which includes:
TC² motorized test stand (550 lb. capacity)
1000N load cell
50mm Vented Compression Plate
Wizard force measurement instrument
Both systems can be further configured to meet your data capture and analysis requirements. Please email us for details.
