Specification
Customer is a manufacturer of cables for the automotive
industry and asked us to provide a gripping
fixture to securely hold 15mm diameter cable to
which a terminal was crimped.
The force required to break the crimp was expected
to be less than 6000N, so it was important that
the cable did not slip during the test. The test speed
specified by the customer was 50mm/min.
Solution
The design of the standard cable-cam grip
(49755-0475) was acceptable but the load rating
was insufficient.
The fixture was therefore increased in size and the
surface finish of the cam was modified to a finer
knurl to improve gripping strength. The long lever
allowed the operator to apply the necessary force
to the cable to be securely held. A clevis pin was
used for holding the terminal.
